We believe in bespoke design

Maia Gillian Roffey

Black Sheep is the brainchild of Maia Gillian Roffey. Maia’s love of design was instilled early. Her formative years were spent living in a home built by famed architect Ron Thom. Visits to properties in Toronto’s Forest Hill and Rosedale neighbourhoods and trips further afield to the Laurentians and Barbados cemented her appreciation for elegant architecture and beautifully executed spaces.

A graduate of McMasters multi-disciplinary Arts & Science program, Maia detoured into law school on the west coast before finding her niche in design. Graduating with honours from Ryerson’s School of Interior Design, she quickly established a reputation as equal parts creative and rational. While honing her aesthetic, she completed her BCIN, LEED AP, and NCIDQ designations, prior to founding Black Sheep. Maia is a member of ARIDO, the IDC, and the NKBA.

A signature quick wit and easy laugh make Maia a welcome partner to clients and trades alike. She strives to establish professional and respectful relationships with everyone she works with and her collaborators value her positivity and problem-solving attitude. Maia’s greatest pride is in bringing her clients personalized spaces beyond what they could envision for themselves. “How did you know what we wanted when we didn’t know it ourselves?” is her favourite feedback.

Maia’s design sense is fueled by sun-filled travels. Whether diving in the Caribbean, mini-breaking in Miami, or resting up in cottage country, she loves to soak up the materials and aesthetics of getaway destinations. She is also a dedicated volunteer and proudly combines her love of design and philanthropy as Chair of the annual Home for Life fundraiser for Eva’s Initiatives, a charity fighting youth homelessness in the GTA.
